CBAM data preparation for stainless steel exports
CN codes, production routes, direct and indirect emissions, and verification requirements.
The CBAM definitive regime requires embedded emissions to be declared per product, with stainless steel falling under several CN codes in chapter 72. Prepare: 1) A product-to-CN-code mapping, covering coil, sheet, tube and sections separately. 2) Production route: electric arc or basic oxygen furnace, scrap ratio, alloy additions. 3) Direct emissions: energy consumption and emission factors for melting, rolling and heat treatment. 4) Indirect emissions: purchased electricity volume and emission factor. 5) Verification: an accredited verifier report, with source records retained. Start with a single product line, validate the data chain, then extend to the full range.
